2020 Alvarinho Alegría Vineyards

2020 Alvarinho Alegría Vineyards
Tasting Notes

Aromas of a bright citrus blend with white flowers. Mouthwatering acidity reveals vibrant flavors of lime, grapefruit, tangelo, and lemon, with hints of honeydew, nectarine, and vanilla. The refreshing citrus flavors extend through the long finish and are joined by an appealing briny minerality.

Winemaker's Notes

Alvarinho originated in northern Portugal. The grape often appears in field blends with other varieties in Vinho Verde. In Spain it’s called Albariño.
Bill’s great grandparents came from Portugal to California in the 1860s, met and married in Petaluma, and settled on a farm west of town, where Bill’s grandmother was born in 1879. We planted a field blend of 80% Alvarinho with other Portuguese grapes to honor our Sonoma-Portuguese heritage.
We planted rootstock on the steep north slope of our hill in 2017, and grafted them in 2018. 2020 is our first harvest from these vines. The mix of grapes were whole-cluster pressed and the juice was fermented in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels.
