Aromas of cherry, cranberry sauce, pomegranate juice, and oak emerge as the wine opens. The entry reveals a spicy, mocha-laced texture and flavors of tart cherry, wild blackberry, and expresso. Savory dried herb and cigar box notes add depth, dimension, and complexity. Supple tannins and integrated oak appear as the wine broadens and lingers on the finish.
The first wine produced by ACORN Winery was a 1994 Sangiovese, from vines we planted on our hillside in 1992. 2109 is our 26th and last vintage of this wine.
The west-facing slope and our cool climate provide an ideal location for the grapes to ripen evenly giving our field blend of 26 clonal selections of Sangiovese, with small amounts of Canaiolo and Mammolo, a food-friendly balance of tannins and acidity.
After a three-day cold soak allowed enzymes to unlock the grapes’ rich flavors and aromas, we supplemented the native yeasts with a Rhone yeast that focuses fruit flavors and adds mid-palate mouthfeel.
Bill selected a combination of French, Hungarian, and American oak, 30% new, to further enhance aromas, flavors, and texture.
