Tasting Notes

Field blending Sangiovese and Syrah, results in a delicious wine with elegance and finesse. The rich dark-toned fruit and earthiness found on the nose flow into mouthwatering mid-palate acidity, balancing the deep, rich flavors. Nuanced fruit highlights the integrated structure, and as the wine opens, traces of blood orange, mocha, and cedar join the luscious flavors. Beautifully aged and ready to savor, this wine will also be delicious for years to come.

Winemaker's Notes

This ninth vintage of our “Super Tuscan” blend marries the vibrancy of Sangiovese and the structure of Syrah. They grow side-by-side in the rocky clay-loam soils of the hillside by our winery, where Canaiolo and Mammolo are interplanted with Sangiovese, and Viognier is interplanted with Syrah. Welcome winter rainfall ended a four-year drought. A frost-free spring and mild summer weather produced a healthy crop with optimal flavors. We hand-picked the Sangiovese on September 24 and the Syrah two days later. Cold soaking for three days let natural enzymes unlock flavors and aromas before fermentation in two tanks, with native yeast supplemented by Syrah and Brunello yeasts. We combined the two lots to finish fermentation in barrel. Two new medium-long toast barrels from the Billon and Radoux cooperages added a smooth mouthfeel and notes of vanilla and spice.
