"Medley is a blend of the best vineyard lots and represents Alegria Vineyards as a whole. It’s composed of Syrah, Zinfandel, Cinsault, Sangiovese, Muscats, Viognier, Dolcetto, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, and more. Taken as a piece the ACORN wines are remarkably balanced, acid rich, food friendly offerings that age well. This vintage of Medley fits that bill to a tee. The nose resembles nothing more than a big bowl of fresh red fruits. The palate is stuffed with cherry and red currant as well as a host of spices. Vanilla bean, earth, mushroom, and sweet cocoa are all part of the finish. This wine is simply awesome. It’s fantastic now and will age well for at least a dozen years.”

Tasting Notes

Layers of inviting aromatics fill the nose—red and black raspberry, plum, pomegranate, and spicy pepper mingle with traces of orange peel, white floral, and leather. The fruit-forward entry reveals a blend of Bing and Rainier cherries, mixed berries, plum, and dried strawberry. A hint of mocha and spice weaves through the juicy texture, expanding as the round, lush flavors linger on the finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Like a musical medley (an arrangement of interwoven melodies) each vintage of ACORN Medley is a unique composition. It reflects the unusual diversity of the 60+ grape varieties we grow, the terroir of our Alegría Vineyards, and our field-blending tradition.

For each vintage, Medley is our first priority. We create this elegant “blend of blends” to capture the flavors of the year in our vineyards, and 2013 was a nearly perfect year.

Our tradition of 14 years starts with Bill’s co-fermented “base blend,” which includes Cinsaut, Mataro, Grenache, Viognier, eight different muscat varieties, and rare grapes such as Blue Portuguese, Liatiko, Einsett, and various table grapes. After eight months of barrel aging, we selected specific barrels of our other 2013 wines to blend with the base, then assembled the blend for additional barrel aging before bottling. In 2013 the Sangiovese stood out and was the first component we added.
