2005 Medley® Alegría Vineyards

Tasting Notes

Spicy fruit aromas mingle with smoky oak and delicate floral notes. Well-integrated flavors of spicy red cherry, plum, vanilla, and toasty oak caress your palate. Hints of baking spices and juicy strawberry mix with orange peel essence to round out the flavors and linger into the delicious finish.

Winemaker Notes

Like a musical medley (an arrangement of interwoven melodies), our Medley is a unique vineyard composition. For each vintage, we work with our consulting winemaker Alison Doran to create a special wine that represents the essence of Alegría Vineyards. The wine is a blend of field blends since each barrel we select for Medley already contains a blend of grapes. Our goal is to create a blend that reflects our terroir, diverse grape varieties, historic plantings, and the unique character of each growing season.

For our sixth vintage of Medley, Bill began by cold soaking and cofermenting his “base blend” of 20 diverse varieties in ¾-ton open top fermenters, which were punched down three times a day to extract color and flavors. This produced seven barrels. After tasting trials, we decided to add one barrel of our Sangiovese and 4 ½ barrels of our Zinfandel to create this elegant and complex wine that expresses the 2005 vintage at Alegría Vineyards.
