Captivating aromas of ripe berries mingle with spices, vanilla, and cocoa to entice you to experience this dark, rich wine. Its velvety mouthfeel accompanies delicious layers of flavors. Concentrated black cherry, plum, and vine-ripened berries blend with creamy vanilla, subtle dark chocolate shavings, and a hint of mocha to create a complex flavor palate.
The oldest vines in our Alegría Vineyards were planted in 1890. The vineyard is a “field blend”, where (as was the traditional practice in the 19th century) complementary varieties are planted side-by-side, then harvested and fermented together. The mix of varieties evolved over more than 100 years to produce a complete, smooth, and very complex wine. We are the fortunate custodians of this legacy.
Winemakers Kent Rosenblum and Jeff Cohn skillfully capture the unique essence of our ancient vineyard by fermenting the grapes in small bins with a combination of yeasts to optimize extraction of color, aromas, and flavors. Then the wine is aged in carefully selected French and American oak barrels until the fruit and oak are fully integrated and balanced.
