Tasting Notes

Striking watermelon hue and juicy aromas of fresh sliced strawberry provide the perfect entry into this luscious dry field-blend rosé. A round mouthfeel reveals refreshing layers of fruit—fresh cherry, raspberry, strawberry, tropical fruit, and melon—that integrate and linger in the creamy textured finish. The varietal blend lends to the complexity and depth of the wine.

Winemaker's Notes

In keeping with our field-blending tradition, our 2015 Rosato is a co-fermented field blend of Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah (with smaller amounts of Liatiko and Blue Portuguese.)

To keep the production manageable, with our small crusher and press, we picked and crushed four separate lots on four separate days. After we crushed each mixed lot, we left the juice on the grape skins overnight to extract color and flavor before transferring the juice to our stainless steel drums (made for Coca-Cola in the ‘40s) for fermentation.

We used two yeast strains (Steinberger and Allegro) that enhance aroma and fruitiness. After fermentation, we transferred the wine to neutral (older) oak barrels for four months before bottling, to integrate the flavors and smooth the mouthfeel.
